Mallorca is a genuinely large island with distinct regions, and where you base yourself matters far more for a family trip than which specific hotel you pick within that region.
The Southwest: Family-Resort Territory
The area around Palma's south and west coast — Palmanova, Magaluf's quieter edges, Santa Ponsa — is the most built-out for families specifically, with resorts offering kids' clubs, shallow-entry pools, and beaches with lifeguards and facilities close by. This is the most turnkey option if you want infrastructure handled for you rather than figuring it out as you go.
The North: Calmer and More Scenic
The northern coast around Pollença and Alcúdia offers a quieter alternative with a similar level of family infrastructure but a less built-up, resort-heavy feel — wide, gently-sloping beaches at Alcúdia in particular are well suited to toddlers, paired with a more traditional town center than the southwest's resort strips.
Palma Itself
Basing in Palma city gives you walkability, restaurants, and easy access to the old town, but less immediate beach access than the resort areas — a reasonable trade if your priority is city exploring with day trips to the coast rather than a beach-based stay.
Getting Around
A car is the most practical way to explore beyond your immediate base, since Mallorca's regions are spread out and public transport, while it exists, isn't dense enough to make spontaneous exploring easy with young kids and their gear. If you're staying entirely within one resort area, though, a car may be unnecessary.
